Prayer

A Prayer When You Can't Sleep

A gentle prayer for a wakeful hour when rest feels distant.

Pine trees beneath a quiet evening sky

A gentle prayer for a wakeful hour when rest feels distant and effort is becoming frustration.

Pray tonight

God who keeps watch, I am awake and tired of trying to make sleep happen. Meet me without disappointment. Help me stop measuring this moment as a success or failure. I bring you the discomfort, the wandering thoughts, and the fear of how tomorrow may feel. Show me any simple act of care I can take, and give me wisdom to seek medical guidance if this pattern continues. Let Psalm 121 remind me that I am not the only one watching through the night. I release the demand to control my body by force. Give me patience, a quieter attention, and compassion for myself. If I sleep, receive my gratitude. If I remain awake, stay near and keep this hour from becoming a place of shame. Amen.

Read and reflect

Read Psalm 121 in BibleAlong's Scripture reader. Notice the movement of the whole passage before returning to the concern you named in prayer. Let the biblical context guide your trust rather than treating one line as a guarantee.

Reflect before resting

  • What am I ready to place in God's care tonight?
